PSYCHOSOCIAL INTERVENTIONS WITH YOUTH IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

TOOLS – Psychosocial interventions with youth in emergency situations

Disasters, wars, and uncertainty about the future, along with specific community traumas, often cause psychosocial and mental health problems in affected communities.

When an emergency occurs, educational work becomes more challenging. However, psychosocial intervention in informal education can be a powerful response to the consequences of emergencies experienced by young people.
Socio-educational operators working with young people need specific training and tools to operate in emergency contexts. Considering the increasing prevalence of emergencies, it is essential and urgent to act in this regard.
PATTERNs project, centering on the rights of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, aims to activate an in-depth analysis starting from the exchange of experiences of several organisations in Europe, facing different kinds of emergency and working in the educational interventions for young people in both formal and informal contexts.

About this publication

This booklet is a collaborative work of numerous youth workers, who wanted to share the good practices adopted by their organisations, presenting them in the frame of the emergency psychosocial intervention as described in the first part of the publication, where you find a theoretical in-depth analysis and few practical tips we suggest to try, in order to fix concepts and help self reflection.
In the second part of the publication, a series of good practices enriches the text, taking us into different contexts and different levels of intervention (some extremely specialised, and others of a broader scope).
Inside of the digital publication, you can find a list of thematic resources and tools and the links to the partners’ websites.
